Yuki The Teddy Robot

Yuki is a retro teddy bear robot who was abandoned by his owners long ago. Now he wanders around aimlessly looking for a friend until he comes across a little lizard who befriends him after giving him shelter from the rain. Yuki has rust and metal patches all over his body from all the years of fixing himself.

Update - 24 Nov 2022

This is the actual render submission that I focused on the most. Yuki protects his new little friend from the rain with his bright red umbrella. He's letting himself get wet so the little creature in the old and weathered cardboard box doesn't get wet. Yuki has a sad yet warming expression on his face because seeing the warm emotion on the lizard's face also warms Yuki's, long-abandoned heart.

Yuki's textures include dirt, paint tearing away, scratches, and patchwork, and he is stitched together in the middle of his main body and at the back of his head. This is because he was abandoned long ago and has been refixed a number of times. There are bandaids in areas that can no longer be fixed such as his left eye and there is only a faint glow left on his heart and one working eye.

I added the rain after effects because I couldn't get it to render properly in Maya. These are three extra render camera shots showing different angles of Yuki and his new little lizard friend.

Update - 23 Nov 2022

I have positioned Yuki and his new little lizard friend and have finished sorting out the textures and lighting for the final render. Next, I am going to add rain and complete the final renders.

Update - 21 Nov 2022

Here I have bought all the texture maps and meshes together in Maya and have done a quick test render to see how everything looks so far. Next, I am going to further develop the lighting, position Yuki, and make his eyes glow yellow.

All the textures were added in Adobe Substance 3D Painter. I added dirt, scratches, and other wear and tear details to make that old and ruined aesthetic for Yuki. The same goes for the box I made it dirty and wrecked-looking.  I kept the lizard simple but cute staying close to the painting reference, heavily influenced by the lizard from Frozen 2.

Update - 14 Nov 2022

Finished the Model of Yuki and everything is UV unwrapped. Also have modelled the little creature and box just need to position them. Starting in Substance Painter then just have to stage everything for the final render.

Update - 4 Nov 2022

Quick digital painting reference of the robot and his little friend in the final scene. Most likely won't build the surrounding. I am going to mainly focus on the teddy bear robot protecting his little friend from the rain with his umbrella.
