Update - 22 Nov 2022

Life very quickly did that thing where it gets super bust all at once - I am very happy I did manage to push to a good mid-final render, wish I had given the project more love but maybe the next project will be a better opportunity :)

Thank you for the support everyone, and best of luck in your own submissions!

Update - 17 Oct 2022

Hello everyone, I've got a big update to share this week!
But just before we dive into the process for the week, check out my latest WIP render in the F1O-PP-IE development!

Retop & UV

First up, I finished the UVs and Retopping the model, and I have exported it into Substance Painter to do some basic initial texturing. I find it very useful to always be exporting it into engine (Marmoset in this case) through the process to check how it's looking!

Texturing

Next, here is the process I took through texturing:

1. Import to Adobe 3D Substance Painter
2. Switch to 'Base Colour' and colour fill in sections
3. Added gradient up through the model
4. Applied a 'Soft Light' Ambient occlusion effect to highlight the edge grooves
5. Hand-paint eyes and added some colour to floppy disk top

Extra Fun

This was just me playing around with the FOV extremes to see how it would impact the model!

Thank you for the support everyone, next week I will work more on my texturing! :D

Update - 14 Oct 2022

Between work I've done some adjustments to my model and finished a low poly version with the geometry and edge loops I want - Lil F1O-PP-IE is still a tad high poly in areas, but I want to leave in extra polycount so I can get a smooth animation for the final result!

Tuuuurrrrrnnnnaarrrrrrouuuunnddddd...

Current Thoughts:
- Comparing the body and concept, I probably need to tweak the scale and sizes but these are easy changes to be made now that I have the geometry in place
- I want to test some animations early and experiment with what I want F1O-PP-IE to do

See you next update with some texturing!

Update - 9 Oct 2022

Hello everyone, I'm looking forward to competing in this challenge and creating something both cute and that will teach me new skills!

I found this amazing concept by Jonathan Rancourt (check out their Artstation) and they have given me permission to use this.

So, meet my chosen Concept: F10-PP-E!

I found this concept perfect for the contest and I have already made a quick high poly blockout in Maya:

My plan with this project is to learn animation, which is something I have only very briefly touched on in university, and push myself to make a really stunning final render, where F1O-PP-E can come to life, jumping around and eating the Disk in their mouth!

Rough plan moving forward:

- Create High / Low Poly in Autodesk Maya
- Hand-painted Textures in Adobe Substance Painter 3D
-
Animate and bring to life in Autodesk Maya

Good luck everyone!

I'll see you in my next update :)
