3rd Year University Project
My 3rd year University Project where I decided to create a game ready character. I spent my first semester doing the design and most of the high poly sculpting, whilst the 2nd semester was focused on finishing high poly sculpt, and the rest of the pipeline.
My Personal Project for our Year 3 module I decided I wanted to create a Game Ready character. However, I focused less on the animation side, and used Mixamo for setting up some poses and for submission I added some already-made animations that are not shown here, but can be found on my ArtStation. Goals were to create a game ready fps-looking character where I would reach certain goals of;
* 20k - 50k tris for the low poly (as the inspiration game VALORANT uses these, 20k for in-game, 50k for display character selection). And I ended up with a little over 20k.
* 4k textures - worked with 4k resolution textures within Substance, and most are hand painted with effects and layers on top to alter the looks and add effects.
* Use the standard industry pipeline
Inspiration is from FPS games, mainly VALORANT, and even though I struggled with the design phase, I still wanted to see my project all the way through and with the entire pipeline. My workflow was decided upon previous research into the standard industry pipeline, going with ZBrush for High Poly sculpting, Maya for re-topology (Low Poly) and UVs, Marmoset Toolbag 4 for Baking, and finally Substance Painter for the Texturing.
I was definitely having some rough moments during certain stages where I was less comfortable; re-topology of armour and hair, baking (new process for me) and the texturing just took some time due to realising there were some slight errors that had come up. I was lucky to be a part of a community where reaching out was easy and I got plenty of help from mutuals in the field who was more than willing to answer my questions and pleas for help.
While there are things I wish to improve on, I am pleased that I was able to get through the pipeline and meet my goals that I set for myself. I am excited to see first fully (finished) made 3D character model and I have learned so much that I can take with me to future projects. Definitely excited to create more characters with more confidence in the pipeline and the process of 3D Character Modelling.

Pictures may differ as they were not all in the "final" stage of each process of the pipeline, but rather just for show.
