A collection of my favorite pieces created as a student at Ringling College of Art and Design. Some design, some animation, and some magic :)

Hola!

I'm Amanda! I'm a motion designer from Cayey, Puerto Rico, and a senior at Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. My work spans various mediums, with design thinking at the forefront. When I'm not pondering over what typeface or grid to use, you can usually find me flipping through interior design and architecture books.

During my years at RCAD, I've had the amazing opportunity to intern at studios like Sibling Rivalry, and Gunner, among others. This collection of work showcases the personal work that I've made as a student throughout my years at RCAD. Happy viewing :)

Distancia - Narrative

Distancia is a short narrative film based on a condensed version of Rima Brusi's short story "Distancia". This serves as my last project as a senior, my thesis film. Being able to not only direct, design, and animate but also voice this piece makes it extremely meaningful to me.

Creating this short film was important to me because I was able to bring my culture to the table and make a visual love letter not only for my family back in Puerto Rico but for the Latinx diaspora as well.

Dior - Ad/Print

Motion Designers fill many roles, for this project, we had the prompt to take our skills into the physical world by photographing a product.

I decided to expand upon the existing project and create a set of three ad spots for DIOR. These spots feature the product, as well as a matching portrait that elevates and showcases people of color. All the sets were shot practically and composited using digital methods. Using design thinking to push forward any medium is a unique challenge and truly exemplifies how vast motion design skills are.

The First Lady - Title Sequence (in progress)

The brief given was to create a 00:15s-00:60s title for a Netflix movie based on Eve (Adam and Eve). When approaching this project, something that was really important for us to consider, was how to use motifs that referenced Eve without being overtly direct about it. We heavily researched less common biblical symbols for Eve such as pointed archways, and thunder, as well as the classic ones such as the apple and ribs. This set the stage for how we wanted to approach the design and animation of the piece.

Although this is a work in progress, it's included within this portfolio because it meets personal learning objectives such as world/environment creation. When creating a world from scratch, everything from the ground, to the sky was our responsibility to make. Together, we figured out a pipeline to make and re-use systems across most of our frames.

Louis Poulsen - Ad/Animation

The brief for this project was to take an object and design a 00:15s-00:45s ad spot. I chose to work on the Louis Poulsen lamps and focus on showcasing its three new colors in a new collection.

This spot plays with how these colors evolve, interact and live within their own stories. A big component of making this spot was the audio and figuring out how to tell the story of this collection not only visually but sonically as well.

"Flor es Ser" - Digital/NFT

As the digital landscape evolves, and our definition of motion design expands, so does the medium. The artwork below is my personal work that was minted on SuperRare as part of the Metafísica spaces which aim to center female Latinx voices.

My three 1:1 artworks take you on a journey through color and abstraction. The “Flor es Ser” collection is a love letter to these early years of my career as an artist. This collection doesn’t just represent my art but also holds a part of my history. Just like summer in Puerto Rico, these blooms last forever.

In Short...

Motion Design can mean so many things and has so much to offer. Each specialty can feel so vastly different, yet we're all united by similar core desires. The need to communicate, elevate, or simply make something cool and have fun :)

As a student and as a designer, I'm infinitely grateful to be graduating into a discipline that has so much room and mediums to showcase creativity. I look forward to championing underrepresented stories and perspectives wherever my creative journey might take me, in hopes to make this industry a more inclusive one.  Thank you so much for taking the time to view my portfolio.

Best,
