A L O J E R A _  Inspired by a little beach in La Gomera, Canary Islands, Alojera is a digital environment entirely made out of fabric.

Having lived most of my life with a seamstress grandma, I've always been obsessed with the idea of immersing myself in a fabric landscape.

I visited La Gomera last June for a residency program on the island. I stayed for a couple of weeks, connected with nature and the territory. Alojera was the closest beach to the house, plus, it was rarely crowded. It suddenly became my favorite spot on the island.

The project was made in Blender, rendered with Cycles, with some modeling done in Clo3d and the textures come from Substance Source.

Starting from the references, I took a satellite image from google maps to have a guide for the proportions of the environment and I started modeling above the image.

All the assets were first modeled in Blender as if they were made of standard materials and imported in Clo3d, where I created a different pattern for each object, to "cover" everything with fabric.

The next step was to reimport everything as single .fbx, retopology, UV unwrap and bake the normals,  all in Blender.

The final step was to apply the materials and render out the scene.

Alojera is part of a series of fabric landscapes inspired by real-world places I've visited.

After some experiments with Unity and VR settings in Blender, I'm now trying to translate this environment into an immersive virtual experience.
