Wardudes is fun and exciting online party game for 2-8 players. Players take control of their wardude and will hectically try to recruit the best army possible - because when the bell rings, players must command their troops on the chaotic battlefield.

The current version of Wardudes was created in 7 weeks by 5 students at Futuregames. At the award ceremony, the game went on to win 3 out of 4 major awards - among others, for Best Game. This granted us a spot to present the game at Global Top Rounds, where the game went on to win Most Innovative Game.

The game has fun and accessible as two core pillars, we want all players to have this game as a go to in their game library for nights online with friends - so anyone should be able to play it, and anyone should afford to buy it.

To marry the two core pillars together, we have a design philosophy - ’to play the game with one hand, so that the other can hold the player’s drink’.

The game is incredibly modular, and with custom made tools to create new wardudes, and the simple art style - we can create new units for the game in a matter of minutes. Which makes the process of iteration incredibly smooth and fun.

We plan to continue with the game, and together with our growing discord community, I think we are set up for success, or at least a fun ride.

The Development

The pitch

We made this pitch very early in the development as a proof of concept, we got great reactions and knew we were on the right track. The pitch is old, but however it holds up since we haven't changed anything of the core concept since the first couple of weeks.

My main responsibilities as a UX designer for the game were, among others, the UI and menus of the game. We had the prototypes for how everything should work up in just a couple of weeks, so that we could focus on making it work and look good in the game.

Creating anything visually for this game was very fun, because we deliberately wanted it to not feel perfect, but focus on the playful feeling - not to toot my own horn, but I think we nailed it in every aspect of the game - from music, sounds, animation, menus and the whole gameplay experience.

This quick prototyping really helped us succeed in making the game feel quite complete in the end.

To read more about my process of creating this, there's a better breakdown here on my portfolio:
