The Inn
The Inn is an environment that was produced for my final year project, a recreation of ‘The Inn’ from the TV show ‘Black Sails’ which is set in the early 18th century Nassau, during the Golden Age of Piracy.

Instead of making the material solely in substance designer, a high poly model was first made and then baked, this served as the base for the new texture. This method was also useful in creating a better height map which would be used to add more dimension to the material when applied to the mesh, either using displacement or parallax occlusion mapping.
The floor material would be further improved by removing the dirt overlay on the tiles and instead vertex painting it on allowing more variety and less repetition. Using materials layers, the red vertex blend controls the dirt mask and the green vertex controls the unmasked dirt.
