1 Year to Improve Myself

Thomas Soulé
by ThomasSoule on 31 May 2022 for Rookie Awards 2022

There is all my works I did during my 2nd year in 3D at the ESMA Montpellier. I tried a lot of new things, I challenge myself to create greater pictures. Enjoy !

Langoustine Lookdev

First project of the year, the lookdev of an athropod. I choose a langoustine (one of my favourite crustacean) for this exercise. Create a living animal with organic shapes, a lot of variations and make it alive is a real challenge. And I liked it !

I'm proud a lot of the result. It was the first time I use Zbrush for the sculpt. It is hard to learn but it's a very powerful software ! I export the vector displacement map of my sculpt to Maya and Renderman. All the detail I made during the sculpt help me to do the albedo in Substance Painter.

Micro World

A little school project. We needed to create a picture of the little vegetation ( moss, rocks, mushrooms and so on). Also the goal was to feel that we were inside this micro space using for example depth of field or the focal length of the camera.

Car Toon

A 3D version of a concept of Ido Yehimovitz. I did the modelisation during my first year but I did the shading this year as a personal work.

My modelisation Vs The concept of Ido Yehimovitz

Ocean Test

I just try some new thing during vacation with this ocean made with Bifrost in Maya

Façade

The goal of this project was to create a CG realistic street with one main facade. I was free to choose the suject I wanted. So I took my inspiration on old factories from the start of the 20's century and snow scene to create contrast between the white and pure snow // the dirty, dusty, and dark factory.

The snowy aspect of my picture take a more important place in the scene but the industrial aspect still remaining and I found it cool. I'm happy of the result.

Snow it's harder to create than I thought. It's one of the harder thing I encounter in 3D modeling and shading.
Also I espacially liked doing the copositing in Nuke

Fur Ball

I produce a stylised fur ball for a last school project. I introduce you Carl! A stupid otter who jump into free fall without his parachute!

I made the fur in Houdini. What remain was done with Maya and Renderman.

Thank you for watching my works! I hope you enjoy it. Send me feedbacks, take your inspiration and have a nice day !
