Concept
Love Letter (1995) is a Japanese romantic movie in which a woman writes a love letter to her late fiancé. We wanted to portray various themes from the film using the medium of origami. A big focus was paying homage to the beautiful snowy, mountainous landscape where the movie takes place.
Animation
After constructing the origami, we took the stop motion photos using a setup of duct-taped phones and desk lights on boxes. A green piece of paper was used in the way that a green screen works - in order to make keying out the background easier. The photos were then composited and edited in After Effects.
