This last year of university has been a life-changing experience. I went from being a graphic design intern in a fintech company to pursuing concept art. Here's the result of this 6 month's journey into this semester's graduation project!

Graduation Project (2022)

The project I want to showcase is my latest work; my graduation project: The World Building of "Giava: Arta Nukarta". It is a fictional location based on the Ijen crater of East Java, Indonesia. Other than being a graduation project, the goal is to learn to develop a cohesive civilization design for a fantasy game. This project is guided by my mentor, Yogi Soelastama, and my supervisor lecturer, Intan Rizky Mutiaz.

The key arts above are one of the last pieces I've done for this project. I try to condense all its visual identity and design within these frames. Below are several architecture and environment designs I made for Giava.

For the story part, I designed several key characters and key props. The initial direction for the characters (will be in the last section) was one of the toughest parts of this project!

I also designed several props as part of this world-building project. This process made me learn a lot more about my country's (one of many) cultures and its dynamic with nature and how to implement that information into the design.

And lastly, a lil bit of a throwback but this is the very first set of sketches I made for this project in the early semester (late 2021), back when I didn't have a clear direction and grasp for the project and concept art in general.

That's it, folks! Thank you for tuning in.

This project wouldn't have been possible without my lovely mentor, supervisor, family, and friends who kept pushing and supporting me on this newfound path!
