Tongues Tied
An interactive installation that explores the system we live in that suppresses new ideas.
The Concept
We wanted to tell a story about people's voices being silenced.
Inspired by the immune system of our bodies, we used white blood cells to represent the police who silence others, viruses to represent activists trying to voice up, and regular cells to represent people who are not actively speaking up.
Tongues Tied is an installation that has 3 different organisms: the Free Thinker, the Silencers and the Empty Minded. Free Thinkers represent those of us that want to voice up and speak about something, and Silencers represent the people who shut new ideas down.
The User Journey
The Technical Setup
This is the technical setup we used when we exhibited this project at DAG in Kedai KL.
The way the installation works is by detecting the user's position in the room with the infrared webcam, and using that information to display the projected visuals.
We used OpenCV to interpret the camera information, and Processing 3.5.4 to code the visuals shown on the screens.

Live Footage
This is some live footage of the installation in action, first at DAG in Kedai KL, then in the lobby of The One Academy.
