Olympus CO - Alexandra Nizamis Rookies 2022
Hello! I am Alex and I am a second-year student at Flinders University and CDW! This is my first year submitting an entry! This is from my character design class.
OLYMPUS CO
These are characters from my character design class. The prompt was to select a pantheon of gods and put them in a setting from a list of settings that the teacher had chosen. I chose the Hellenic (Greek) Pantheon/ Mythology and Modern Suburban.
Athena - Goddess of Wisdom + Strategy
Athena was my first character. I wanted her to look authoritative but approachable at the same time. At this point, I had no idea what I wanted this world to be exactly and I was trying to figure out how to include mundane elements with godly, fantastical elements.
Poseidon - God of Oceans + Earthquakes
At this point of the project, I decided to make the setting an office/cooperate setting. I decided to take some general tropes that are seen in similar media. For example, Poseidon is the kind of coworker who would create memes about hating his wife. Decided to go a bit more fantastical with his design, especially the beard. I really wanted to push the boundaries between godly and normal.
Heracles - The Greatest Hero
Heracles was a super fun design to create. One of the most iconic labours of Heracles was the Nemean Lion, so his design is largely based on that first labour. With a literal lion's mane covering his shoulders, his lion belt buckle and his mane of hair. I feel like if I included more ideas, the design would become crowded.
Arachne - Godlike Seamstress turned Spider
Because Arachne is not a goddess, I had to figure out a way to differentiate between gods and morals. The way that I figured out how was their hair. The godly characters so far have had gravity-defying hairstyles so to differentiate between them and Arachne, I gave her a more realistic hairstyle that matched the essence of this universe.
Conclusion
I feel I created a solid team of characters that fit in the same universe and work well with each other's designs. I would love to continue this project outside of assignments.
Thank you for viewing!
