Connie Chan - 3D Environments 2021-2022

In the past year I've had the wonderful chance to start a new path of learning and creating at Think Tank Online. Here are some of the environments I created during that time.

Merlin's Cave

First up: Merlin's Cave.

My Advanced term final at TTO based on the concept piece by Weston T Davies, compiled in UE4. I wanted to focus on the theme of mystical/magical & medieval (ish) and this concept gave me a little bit of everything. From a learning perspective, it had a little bit of everything that you would want to cover so it really was a piece of all trades. I got the chance to get into more baking, sculpting, props, and textures, as well as play around with shaders in UE4.

The Sun-Mage Apprentice's Greenhouse

Next Up: The Sun-Mage Apprentice's Greenhouse.

My 4 week intermediate term final, inspired by a concept created by Alexandra Semushina (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/KO69dR). This was my first environment in UE4 and I definitely learned a lot. I knew I wanted to focus on something stylized this term, and chose to scope smaller so that I could learn more about texturing for stylized assets. That became both a blessing and a curse since part of me always wants to "do more," but in the end it worked out since life got a little heavy handed with me partway through the term.

This was my first real foray into creating and texturing foliage but I really enjoyed it!

I come from a production/design background, so being able to create my own posters, even as a small decal such as these was really nice. It was a good break to be able to dive right in and create something quick amidst all the learning.

The next stage of my adventure at Think Tank is leading me to my mentorship term, which I'll be starting shortly. I can't wait to see what more I can create and learn in the next couple months!
