Review Modeling
Student in my last year as a character artist, it is with great joy and pleasure that I present a few of my projects. They are all modeling that are close to my heart, that made me evolve and that, each time, made me face different problems. I let you discover, hoping that you will like my creations.
Rabbit in Raincoat
This character was particularly interesting to make for me. Indeed, it was the first time I tried to made a a character in a more cartoon style.
Although the final posing was the most complex part, I was able to learn a lot about this project. It allowed me to better understand and apprehend the volumes in the space and to retranscribe them in the best way.
This character comes from a concept of Celine Kim that I found some time ago. I quickly tried my luck to reproduce it in modeling.
Jack Skellington Pumpkin
A speedsculpt that I had the opportunity to make to celebrate Halloween. Originally intended to be a quick exercise, I took the time to go back and rework it to make it the best it could be.
Being a fan of Henry Selick's work, I found the idea of transcribing Jack's face onto my pumpkin interesting.
Hudson Hornet
Probably the project that challenged my patience.
Started a few years ago, I finally found the courage to complete this car and to push it to the maximum in an attempt to have a final rendering as realistic as possible. Entirely done with box modeling, it allowed me to apprehend many problems and questions concerning this way of modeling.
Asian Dragon
This project was not very difficult to realize.
After having completed many personal challenges, I wanted to make a project a little more simplistic. This time the character remains almost entirely symmetrical with a decor that is quite fast to model. A character without pose and coming from a universe I like, reminding the Asian culture I particularly appreciate.
Eddy
Eddy is the result of an original project I had in mind.
He is a shy, very introverted young teenager who keeps to himself and finds it hard to approach the people around him. He feels uncomfortable in public and hates crowded places.
He evolves in a dystopian universe where all objects or relics from the past have been banned by the government. People who possess them are considered criminals and are banished or eventually executed.
Traveling through the universe in which he lives, Eddy constantly tries to collect as many relics as possible in order to preserve the history and the past of humanity.
This was a rather ambitious project and quite complex to realize for many reasons. First of all, the objective was to make a model without using the traditional TPose, by putting the character in action from the beginning of the creation.
The production of this character also required the use of multiple software programs, requiring a certain rigorousness in the succession of the different production phases.
Darkwing Duck
Having grown up in the Disney universe, and more particularly the one of Donald and Scrooge, I quickly had the desire to model one of its too many characters that I love very much.
I finally chose a character from the universe that is a little less famous: Darkwing Duck.
A rather atypical character and full of himself.
This personal project allowed me to transcribe in volume a character from the 2D universe. Something I had never tried to do before. It was a real challenge, especially since cartoon characters have shapes and expressions that can be limited in 3D.
Cerberus
New project, new challenge !
This time a character with several faces that had to be as identical as possible. The modeling of Cerberus required much more reflexion than for my other projects. Trying to model him piece by piece and then blending it all together into one object.
The use of box modeling also allowed me to keep correct proportions between all the elements of the character. I could easily keep identical faces. It also facilitated the pose of the character and made the sculpt more pleasant afterwards.
Again, I was inspired by the work of an artist: DanSchoening.
However, I quickly detached myself from the medium in order to tend towards a more personal project, choosing however to preserve traces of the original design.
Dog Anatomy
I've always liked to focus on the details, either in drawing or in modeling. The more complexity and detail there is, the more I enjoy finding the answer to "how to do it?"
It was with this mentality that I made the choice to begin working on an anatomy project.
At first, I was only interested in doing the head of my subject, but I finally took the risk and the pleasure to do the whole body of the animal. And although sometimes I had to face problems of proportions or observation, I always had a lot of fun during the creation of this project.
After many days of work, I finally managed to get a complete ecorché of a canine. Regrouping the skeleton, the muscles and the skin.
For this project, I wanted to be as accurate as possible anatomically speaking. I did not concentrate on the graphic aspect of my rendering, preferring to go to the simplest in order to facilitate the overall vision of this work.
Thank you all for spending time looking at my projects. I hope you liked my creations.
Please feel free to give me feedback so that I can continue to progress. I am fond of all constructive feedbacks in order to always evolve in this domain which passionates me.
