Verne a young woodcutter, is interrupted by a spirit when it steals his axe and runs away. Following the spirit leads the man to new revelations about his actions.
I created this film to raise awareness about deforestation and how our small actions can spiral and cause negative or positive impacts. Additionally, I wanted to show that we can do small actions that can help improve this issue.
Before production, I started out creating the character turnaround and experimented with the spirit character. It was difficult to design as I didn't want it to look too much like fire but I also wanted a simple ambiguous shape. I later changed the design to be more leaf-like to make a more obvious connection.
Here are the concepts of the early environment, and the colour script for the storyboard. I wanted to really push the mood by using color. Creating a bright environment to match the wonder and awe, and creating a dull, dark environment to match the misery.
