Gaspard EICHER - Lucanus Cervus
Here is my attempt at recreating a European Stag Beetle. I really enjoyed the challenge and I hope you guys will like the result !
It's based on his real life insect counterpart the Lucanus Cervus (or his vernacular name : European Stag Beetle).
Since I'm a big fan of insects (or any invertabrates to be honest), I decided to tackle a realistic version of this beetle.
The goal there was to challenge myself with the realism aspect of it. Finding references was quite tricky especially for the textures of the carapace and the way every joints and elements were coming together, luckily I used to see a lot of specimens when I was younger wich helped me in the end to achieve this result.
An other interesting and challenging aspect was the anatomy. While most creatures or animals can be easly recreated by the way their muscles and bones shape their bodies, in invertebrates it's a bit more tricky so you really need to pay attention to every details.
