Please enjoy a look through all of my most recent 3D work throughout the last year! It has been a great year of progress and learning, and I am continuing to grow as an artist/animator! Hope you enjoy!

Round of applause for our sponsors

Throughout this past year, I feel like I have grown tremendously as a 3D artist. I still have a long way to go no doubt but I am super happy about the progress that I have made, and I am glad to see that I am moving in a great direction. This year was full of different types of projects for me, where I dipped my feet into areas that I had never really tried before. Most of these projects were my first attempts at a certain skill, but that being said I am really happy with the outcome. Please enjoy a look at my 2019 Demo Reel, and then we can dive into some of my favorite 3D projects that I worked on this year!

Skydiving Lesson

This project was super fun to create! I really enjoyed spending more time in 3D and getting some familiarity with character creation. I felt that the story was really fun to work with and my hope was that I could get a few people to laugh along the way. My concept evolved over time from a simple punchline. It was an interesting process to take a quick two sentences, and turn it into something bigger!

Olympus

Using Greek mythology as it's structure, this piece takes us deep into a cave where an ancient statue has been found, indicating a time where Zeus, the god of thunder, and ruler of Olympus has betrayed his fellow companions. Using representative objects to portray each god and goddess, this animation displays those taking a stand against Zeus, in his search for complete power over all of the gods and goddesses.

I really enjoyed creating this project. It gave me a chance to try organic modeling, and it allowed me to improve my skills overall. I was really happy with how the story came out. There is no dialogue, and yet I feel it still conveys a strong message of the oppression of mythological characters. I am really happy with the outcome, but I think that if I were to revisit this, I would explore the possibility of creating full sized characters for each god and goddess. Enjoy!

Special thanks to Kelly Warner at SoundMural.tv for creating an awesome soundtrack for this animation!

X-Wing Flying through the Trenches

I am super happy I got to learn some hard surface modeling in Cinema 4D for this project. I had been dying to model an X-Wing for so long so when I finally achieved the skills, I was ready to jump right in. The animation utilizes hard surface techniques, along with UV Mapping and post production compositing. It took a couple passes to make it seem more realistic. At first it felt very much like a cartoon model, but after pushing the details, textures, and lighting further and further, the end result was very pleasing.

I also got to implement Adobe Photoshop in order to create all of the textured surfaces. I used many different brushes and layers to add to the overall look of the model. I then composited everything in Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro so I could accurately create the scene and sounds. I would have to say this is one of my favorites from this year!

Care Package

This was my first time experimenting with motion tracking. I took some footage around my college campus and added in a hard surface modeled "care package". My main struggles with this was the compositing of course; being able to make it look like it was actually there was quite challenging. Looking back at the project, I wish I would've implemented cracks, or impact marks on the ground just to add to the realism. I look forward to trying out more motion tracking animations in the future.

Ticket Booth

This class project was a little different than normal. We were tasked with creating a small animation based off an audio track that was given to us. At first I struggled to think of what would match my audio, but I then settled with creating a simplistic style animation that focused on the overall mood that the sounds provided. The design style is a little different than what I was then used to making, so it was interesting to try a different look. I don't know where the audio came from, as it was given to me by my teacher, but I felt this was an interesting challenge, to focus on the mood as opposed to some big piece.

Here are just a few stills that I thought I could throw in, of some of my explorations in texturing and lighting!
