3D Environments 2021-2022

These are some of the environments I did during my journey at Think Tank Online. It was such a great experience and I am forever grateful for everything that I have learnt. Enjoy!

French Revolution

This is my latest project done during my Mentorship Term. It was my first exterior environment and I wanted to catch the expressive mood of the concept. The lighting was especially important to create the feeling of fought battles on the streets and brighter days to come.
I used Maya and ZBrush for modeling, Substance Painter and Substance Designer for the textures and put it all together inside Unreal Engine.

I wanted to limit the space with a square street. Since there was no concept I tried to catch the style of the existing buildings but still give them their own character.

I sculpted most of the tiling materials inside ZBrush and took them over to Substance Painter for texturing.

These are all the tiling materials.

One of my main focuses on this project was modularity. I wanted to be able to reuse as many meshes as possible and still get a wide variety. For even more variety I used vertex painting on the walls and added different decals on top.

I hand painted the props inside Substance Painter to give them a unique look. To get the desired shape of the flags I used Marvelous Designer. The wind tool especially helped for the one flattering in the center of the scene.

To get a better feeling of the dusty and empty streets, I placed some fog cards in the scene.

Egyptian Temple

This project was done during my Advanced Term at Think Tank. It was my first project on a bigger scope. The main focus were the props, especially the different statues, which were a challenge by itself because I had no knowledge about anatomy at all.

The temple was made with modular walls and the columns were reused as well throughout the scene. I placed all the floor tiles by hand to get more variation.

The statues and the lion heads of the brazier were sculpted in ZBrush and, like the other props, hand painted in Substance Painter. I used some tiling materials I did in Substance Designer on the marble statues and the brazier.

Probably the most intriguing prop for me was the Anubis statue based on the ones found in the tomb of Tutanchamun.

That's it, I hope you enjoyed this little journey as much as I did!
