Here i feature three portfolio pieces i created during my second year at The Game Assembly. I challenged myself to create them on a short deadline and i ended up having a lot of fun with my pieces :)

The Toad

The idea of a toad with an outfit was an inspiration from the Over the garden wall. One of the episodes show a very quaint world of frogs dressed in 1800s clothes, which reminded me of 19th century frog taxidermy and antique greeting cards. I wanted to explore that a bit by making a toad with a historical outfit from circa 1810-20.

The toad and the clothes were sculpted in Zbrush, with retopo in Maya and texturing with Substance Painter. I rendered the toad in Unreal Engine 4 using modified props and textures i had made during earlier assignments at The Game Assembly. It was created during 4 weeks half time.

The model is two 2048 maps for the toad and the outfit. The polycount for the frog is a bit over 13k tris and the cane together with the hat is 1000 tris.

Here's the modelviewer showing the Toad's material views.

Wizard's Cabinet

Here I wanted to make a piece with several different prop elements, so I used antique medicine cabinets as my main inspiration. I decided to create a wizard's kit of bottles and props that would fit inside the cabinet and also be complete on their own, with customisable textures and atlases.

The pieces were modeled in Maya, textured in Substance Painter and rendered in Blender Cycles. The cabinet is a 2048 map and the other props fit together on 1024 maps. The table and wall were made with two tiling textures.

Here i show cabinet and the kit of props with some adjustable textures.

An assortment of concepts and progress shots for the cabinet.

Birch Nymph

Here I wanted to remake a piece I concepted and modeled several years ago to see the improvement I had made during my time there.  The character is supposed to be a forest spirit who saw some knights in her forest and became inspired to make her very own knight costume using what she could find.

The project was 4 weeks half time and made using Zbrush, Substance painter and Maya. I used Marmoset for rendering.

The character is one 2048 k map for the body and two 1024 k maps for the sword and foliage. Tris count is 11 580 for the character and the sword.

I wanted to take a bit of a new angle to the old model and concept i had made, but this time adapted to be animated and to function in a game using what i had learned at school.

Here's the model viewer with material views, showing the handpainted texturing i did in 3D Painter
