The werewolf and deity
A collection of character concept art I worked on from two different projects.
The Lycan
Over May I decided to work on some designs for my character Madox. A stoic, powerful and intelligent werewolf. I wanted the challenge of designing a more masculine and serious character.
When I first started designing him I didn't want his human form to give away that he is a werewolf. In the story werewolves are feared and banished from society, so I didn't want him to be too burly, hairy or be covered in scars. I wanted him to maybe look somewhat standoffish, but still be able to fit into society.
Once I begun to have his human form mostly worked out, I started designing his two wolf forms. I didn't want his final form to be too similar to a wolf, so I experimented with the features. For his half-form I wanted him to have much bigger arms that could have a lot of power in them.
It was important to me to make his wolf form still carry some of his likeness.
Amaterasu Concept Art
As part of a University project I had to do the concept art for a game called A Quiet Village. One of the characters I had to design was the deity Amaterasu. After reading the mythology I made her appear much more gentle to begin with, but after some feedback I tried to see if I could show a darker side to the sun goddess. In the games story Amaterasu is much more unforgiving than she is in Japanese mythology.
I wanted her design to be interesting, but without being to complex for the sake of our 3D modeler.
The crown I gave her ended up becoming an important symbol in the game. It came about, because I was trying to find a clear way to express her status of sun goddess.
The game was set in a cold mountainous area, so at first I was going to make her more covered up. However I realized that as a sun goddess, she wouldn't have to worry about being cold like a mortal would. I had more freedom with what she could wear. So I decided to give her a more revealing dress, which meant that I could show more cracks on her body. Rather than them being only visible on her face.
