3D Character Project Showcase 2022
Hey! I am Migle Ignotaite and I am happy to share the 3D Character art portfolio I created in my final year at the University of Huddersfield. I was aiming to create a variety in my portfolio - one which showcases my flexibility in various art styles. https://www.artstation.com/ignamist
Apostasy
Based off Alina Fuhrmann's concept (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/18690o).
I started this piece in order to really look into hard surface modeling for character, but due to the nature of the concept, I got swayed into learning first time about grooming and skin as well, which was an exceptional experience overall. To begin with, I really loved the concept art and tried to stay true to it as best as I could. I used ZBrush for sculpting, Maya for retopology, 3dsMax for modeling, UVs and Hair, and a mix of Substance Painter & Photoshop for texturing. The entire project took 8 weeks.
She was one of the first volunteers to accept technological advancements and stray away from faith in order to shape the history of humanity amidst the conflict of beliefs.
During the making of the character, I was mostly inspired by Destiny 2, Star Citizen, and Alita: Battle Angel, for their specific features in characters.
Yor'ii, Demigoddess of Luck
Based off Alexis Pflaum concept (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/b5aaJr).
A little side project to explore a different art style and character proportions than I am normally used to, inspired by the stylized works of André Kent. However, instead of creating a heavily sculpted, very detailed piece, I wanted this project to take the approach of just a simple, clean stylized anime style, keeping true to the concept. This was a fun project to tackle, with experimentations of flow maps to give the metals and hair the right direction and sheen, with additional spice towards texturing curls and tangles! I gave her a small custom rig in 3dsMax as well due to her complex proportions, which also allowed the easy movement of ears, dangles & tail. I used ZBrush for sculpting, Maya for retopo, 3dsMax for UV & rig, and Substance Painter + PS for texturing.

Hedgehog
Based off Lin Chang's concept (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/0n64Be).
My 6 week project, Hedgehog, inspired by the style of Borderlands 3! A lot of people have at some point considered doing something similar to Borderlands - my idea behind this project was to not just look into the challenges this art style poses, but also practice hard-surface modelling. The one thing I enjoyed the most about the art style was the free, yet controlling brush strokes and mixing of colours to really convey the vibrant world of Borderlands. I had a lot of fun experimenting with it and seeing what I can achieve in this amount of time, keeping true to the concept.
Lethal Deal
Lethal Deal was a 12-week project by my team Inline 9, which we created for our University module. My primary role in the team was character art and 2D art, some of which I showcase here, presented in Unreal Engine 4.
The idea behind the characters is that they were once ordinary civilians before their city got corrupted and everything went mad. The game takes place in various environments such as dark corridors and arenas illuminated with blue sci-fi lights, therefore the characters had to be recognised by their red colours and unique silhouette from afar.
Eluna
Eluna is a small personal project I have been working on as my latest piece. She was inspired by the idea of growth and how far I've gotten in my studies in the character field. I decided to just let it all out in texture work and have fun, for the first time working off my own imagination over someone else's concept.
