Angelina Retodo - Reel and Animatics

Preface

Hello, I am Angelina Retodo, and I am a 2D animator and story artist currently studying at the School of Visual Arts. Over the past year, I have worked to develop my skills in character acting in animation, while also improving my storytelling through scriptwriting and animatics. Overall, there's so much I still want to learn and improve on, but I am happy with the progress I'm making in my artistic journey, and I can't wait to make better and more exciting stuff!

Harold the Ice Cream Man Animatic

This animatic is part of a class animatic jam, with the prompt being to do an "interview" of a character on their last day on Earth. My story revolves around Harold, a friendly neighborhood ice cream man as he spends his last day doing one thing: makings everyone else's last day a little sweeter.

When developing this animatic, I experimented with utilizing Blender to model and then render a neighborhood into "lineart". Additionally, I imported the neighborhood into Storyboard Pro itself, in order to navigate the 3D neighborhood in specific shots.

Rekindle Animatic

This animatic is based on the script and visual development created by my classmate Meryl Calubad. The story revolves around a young fighter pilot who becomes marooned on an island. With his plane wrecked and his past actions haunting him, this pilot must relearn his love for flying in order to survive.

When developing this animatic, I got to refine my collaboration skills and experiment with utilizing Blender within my boards. For this project, I used Blender to create an island that could give me a variety of different shots I can utilize as backgrounds for my animatic. Overall, this project was my most ambitious, considering how many scenes it took to hit all the marks of this comprehensive story. 

My Knight and I Animatic

This animatic revolves around an optimistic knight's first day on the job.  As he dreams of a life of heroism and bravery, he soon learns that his expectations are far from reality. 

This animatic was the first real animatic I ever made, and it was a steep learning curve for me.  The idea for the story itself started from some old sketches of a knight I drew in high school, which I later revamped and wrote a story about. From developing this story from script to boards, I learned a lot more about how much work goes into storyboards. I've always wanted to storyboard action, so this project was incredibly fun for me, and I hope to use my new skills to create even more epic fight scenes in the future.
