2022 Character modeling portfolio

Hi, I'm Neisan ! I wanted to show you the work I made this year in character modeling ! I'm a student at ECV Bordeaux, an animation school, and this is my last year. Then I'm sharing with you some sneak pic of the graduating movie I will present to finish my Master 2 degree in june ! Enjoy !

THE BINDING OF ISAAC - from Guillaume Duchemin's illustration

Guillaume Duchemin (@_saindoo_ on Instagram) made a serie of illustration of the Tainted characters from the game. I decided to transform them into 3D.
The art style of Saindoo was an invitation to the sculpt, he define the shapes and volumes in a way that inspired me. 
Whith this project i wanted to feat the most accurately to the illustration, but I limited my work time to 1 week.
To this end, I did everything in Zbrush, from blocking to rendering, including a polypaint, attempting to imitate the painting style of Saindoo.

I asked to my Instagram followers to chose the character I will scuplt, and there they are :
The forgotten (this little ghost carrying his own skeleton), Cain (the greedy baby with his huge bag) and Eve (the blood cloat summoner).

The Forgotten was probably the one I enjoyed the most. He is a character I like to play, and making this little bones was fun !

Cain was quite a challenge cause Saindoo used some strange tricks to do the hands, modeling them was quite difficulte.

Eve was challenging too, but i wanted to finish a trio, then I did my best to do do the blood cloat. Using a translucid shading in would change the style I used in the last sculpt so I tried to paint them on 2 layers and mix them on photoshop.

This serie was really fun to do, and the feedbacks from Instagram community and Guillaume Duchemin who did the illustration, gave me a lot of motivation ton continue this serie !

LITTLE CROCO & OCTOPUS - ( The Rookies Weekly Drill 078 )

A sculpt I'm starting for the weekly drill Octopus. Following the illustration made by Manos Sparakis.

The most important part of the final render is in the polypainted textures. I did everything with a simple paint brush in Zbrush, polishing the final render with a thin red outline.
The cuteness of this illustration made me enjoy working on this project !

As you can see, the process was quite linear,  but I'm so happy with the final result. The feedbacks from Sparekiss were a real source of motivation, and I'm so happy that The Rookies team chose my project for the gold medal on this weekly drill ! ♥

THE CLIMBER - realistic sculpt project

This year, I had some work to do for my specialization in character sculpt. To do so, I worked on Zbrush, Marvelous designer and Maya to create acharacter from scratch. I challenged myself with realistic anatomy, and the most important part of my work was to study anatomic references. 
I made a climber, inspired by the people I saw at my climbing gym, and sculpted her in pose, following the constraint of the course.

That was a challenging and inspiring work, when I learnt a lot, but I the pipeline we followed for this exercice was not compatible to push this work to a rigged character. Then, I deciced to finish this work in this state, and I will use the new abilities to do a more efficient project that (I wish) will be push to something more polish.

THE VERY NEXT TIME FACTORY - Modeling, rigging and comp for my graduating movie

As a student in ECV Bordeaux, I'm working on a movie that will be the main exercice to validate my Master degree in 3D animation.

With my team ( Antoine Gallouin, Emma Grignon, Najwa Boushaki, Chad Djalti & Yi Bo Bao ) we created a movie from storytelling to compositing in one year. 
And I mostly worked on the character modeling and rigging, the set dress and props modeling, and I i'm doing the compositing right now !
The movie have to be finish until the middle of june but I can already share with you some inside pic' of our work !

Here are our characters, they are some kind of automaton designed to work on a strange sphere in a steampunk fantasy atelier.
They are 5, differentiated by the variation of their cloak cloaks, working on a specific task.

After we designed this character, Najwa and I made the modeling. While Emma and YiBo were working on the shading, I did the rigging and the technical properties of the character (including some switchs to change between the diffferent characters using a single rigg).
Antoine animated the character and Chad made the CFX simulation.

And here we are ! I wish you like this turn (and the logo I made for the movie). I attach some WIP pictures of the movie to invite you in our universe ♥

OTHER PERSONNAL PROJECTS

To be honnest, this is my first participation in the Rookies Portfolio of the Year, and I don't want to flood this first entry with too much things. 
But I wanted to share some others work relative to character and modeling. Iwanted to share my universe with you, and I'd love to hear your feedback on this ! 

This is it ! I hope you liked this compilation.

This year marks a change in my artistic evolution with the end of my studies. I'm looking forward to share with you the rest of my creations, here, on the Rookies !
