Self-Portrait
This is a self-portrait made during my 3rd year at ESMA and that i decided to push a little further during my free time.
The model was made with ZBrush from a scan. Texturing was done on Mari and shading/lighting with Renderman for Maya using ACES. The compositing was done with Nuke.
My first step was to import the scan into ZBrush to clean it up roughly and reshape the ears. Then I did the retopology in maya. To get a cleaner version of the scan, I subdivided the retopo mesh and used the quad draw relax tool to recover the sharper angles lost with the retopology.
I exported the cameras with their image from the scanning software and imported them into Maya. This allowed me to rework the modeling in places where the scan had not worked. Most of the sculpting was actually done in Maya. I then used ZBrush for the finer details and to export the vector displacement map.
The skin textures were made from the pictures taken during the photoshoot that I cleaned with Photoshop and projected onto the model using Mari.
The hardest part of this project for me was the grooming. It took me a long time to find the best way to achieve a natural look. The result is not perfect but I learned a lot and I think I will do better next time!
