[Under development] game concepts & visual ID

Collection of concept art created for a game that is currently under development for our third school project. We are developing a RTS game set in a alternative future where the Roman Empire never ended and turned into a massive government, while you play as neo celts fighting for freedom and humanity. I've been working with 11 people, and the mechs in the concepts were kindly provided by my colleagues Oneal Priyanto and Eddi Petersson. For this project, I started with mood concepts that helped our team have a vision of the game. After fine tuning our opinions, I developed an environment concept with the game camera in mind, to show designers, programmers and artists what would be the in-game look, helping to figure out scale and materials for example.

My workflow consists of developing an asset library of silhouettes and using it to iterate on thumbnails, which i make in black&white and sometimes in color. I present it to the team before choosing options to refine.

After developing the initial concepts, I start with the asset breakdown. In this game's case, we need a lot of assets to populate the environment and serve as covers, so I started with some buildings options, and then came up with some general assets such as containers, boxes and trash cans. Since this game's level is procedurally generated and we are using Houdini to create the buildings, the designs show similar modules and parts to help the 3D artist in charge of that.

I used a google result for the Roman symbol just to show how to use it, and after these first concepts I could develop properly our own visual ID to be used in game, both for romans and celtics.

The celtics ID is futuristic but brings traditional celtic symbols, nature related shapes and calm cold tones.

While the romans have a very strong use of red and gold, hard edged shape language and the opressive look.

For the game UI, I created a HUD mockup inspired by XCOM2 and Destiny. All the UI was thought to support the gameplay, design pillars and narrative with a clean and clear touch.

Here's an example of my UI workflow which is very similar to concept art. The only difference is that the shape language is definitely the protagonist in the UI exploration!

Spacefarm Illustrations

One of my most recent personal projects was creating illustrations of a space-facility farm. I focused on the mood, colors and to reach a certain level of stylization in these illustrations, while I was also practicing workflow and use of photobashing for stylized art.

Mooshie Masked Maniacs

In the first Game Project we had at Futuregames I worked with 8 teammates to develop a 2D/3D sidescroller game. I worked with character design and illustration in this project. We were very inspired by the colors and mood from Rayman Legends, and it was a roller coaster to develop this game in two weeks!

Splash art and game poster I created using backgrounds made by my colleague Johannes  Ekholm and some assets by William Hoglund.

Example of the bunny-monster character concept

Hair&Bones 2D game

For a two weeks project at school, I created these assets and implemented them using Unity. In this project my focus was character design, animation and UI.

I made a handlettering for the game UI, which was inspired by opening titles of cartoons such as Adventure Time

The two main characters, Hair and Bones! In the left you can see the asset division for animation, in the middle the original asset and in the right the final character with textures.

... and the two main enemies!

Example of character concepts and their 3/4 view

Hannibal (under development) game

As a side project, I teamed up with some school colleagues to develop a game. I'm working as concept artist in this project and you'll probably hear more about it soon! But for now, these are the initial mood concepts

And some examples of my thumbnails done before committing with the refined images.

Thanks for viewing!
