Environment Art by Jan Neumetzler
Hey there! Here are some Environments I created during the past year. I learned a lot from these projects. I hope you like them.
Medieval Village
I wanted to create a large outdoor environment using modularity. A visit to an open-air museum with medieval houses and structures gave me the inspiration and references for this project.
Assets
A key aspect of this environment is modularity. These Half-Timbered Houses are often very complex so I had to break the elements down into the most common shapes. To add life to the environment, I created some props to use all over the scene.

References
These are some of the photos I took in an open-air museum and used as references for this project.
Library
I had the ambition to create an indoor environment. While researching and brainstorming what I could do I got fascinated by old Libraries and wanted to create one myself.
Assets
To create this scene I broke down the structure into modular pieces and created some more props. I created a large globe as a hero. One important part of the scene is the bookshelf. For this, I first created the books in random sizes and created textures for them. Then I scattered them on the bookshelf. It should be clean and tidy with some randomness but not be too repetitive, so I can use one asset for the entire scene, just with mirroring.

Revisiting the Project
I was not satisfied with the large window and lighting. So I revisited the project after a while. At first, I also used Materials from Quixel Megascans and I wanted to create my own since I was learning Substance Designer at that time.
Treehouse
This project was initially made for a challenge from CGBoost. However, I did some major changes afterward.
Assets
To create the structure I broke down the elements into modular pieces.
Revisiting the Project
I made some major changes to Materials, Lighting and Background. Especially the fog helped me create a more mystical environment and creates with its cold blue/green colors a nice contrast to the more warm red/brown colors of the treehouse.
Stylized Environment
This is my first project made in Unreal Engine. Before that, I had a bit of experience with Unity, but when an environment creation course from Stylized Station was released, I wanted to take it. I wanted to try Unreal Engine for a while and I started to love this software. After the course, I created this environment to see if I can apply what I was taught.

Stylized Materials
Lastly, I want to share a few stylized materials I created in Substance Designer. These helped me a lot in getting used to the software and the process of creating Materials.
Thank you for your attention and interest!
If you have any feedback I would love to hear it. Feel free to leave a comment or reach out to me. I hope you liked it.
