Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) Brand Icons

Introduction

Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) is Malaysia's largest cinema exhibitor and its mobile app is often used by users to check the showtimes of available movies and purchase cinema tickets online. In addition, the app also notifies users regarding the latest promotions and personalized offers via a notifications inbox.

Problem

Some of the icons within the existing Golden Screen Cinemas mobile app were found to be unable to convey their functions in a clear manner. For instance, a single lightning bolt is used for the Ticket Purchase function, while a QR code is used as the icon for the the Purchase History function. The functions of these icons are not instantly recognizable based on their design and might mislead users that are navigating through the app.

Objective

To create a set of icons that is based on the respective functions of each icon within the existing Golden Screen Cinemas App, where the functions of each created icon are easily recognizable.

Design Process

To start with the design process, 5 sets of icons with different art styles were first sketched, with each set containing 6 icons with their own respective functions.

The selected set of icons, which has a 2-D isometric vector art style, were then digitize and colorized based on a golden-yellow and purple color scheme.

In order to showcase the created set of icons, a redesigned front page UI of the Golden Screen Cinemas app was created as the final step of the design process.
