RETURN

This is a story about returning a “ball”. I use watercolors, Sumi ink, and charcoal as improvisational tools to create this black and white, surreal world from my memory. The surroundings are based on my college dormitory and the streetscape around the campus. The "ball" is an existential object in the dream-space from the start to the end. The express delivery car and boxes labeled “Fragile” lying everywhere are also indispensable elements of my transient life. Some of these images are short-lived and disposable while some are eternal and contain some erotic impulse.

For me, the story is quite personal but I want to evoke the essential emotions of the audience, such as intangible relationships, the displacement between organisms and objects, death and birth, disposal and eternal. The returning of the ball also represents the returning to instincts and the womb, a place of primal safety.
