Meet all the characters I've made during my time at Gnomon as an aspiring 3D character artist for games!

The Swallow

Despite a few damaged feathers, her grace and ferocity does not waver!

The "Swallow", original concept by Nadezhda Tikhomirova, is my latest finished character, done for Damon Wood's Character Creations for Games course at Gnomon. My goals were to learn from Overwatch's character art style, and apply a stylized PBR workflow. It was a fun challenge to strike a balance between honoring the concept and applying my stylization studies.

The One

When one inspires in you a sense of awe, of power and reverence, what else is there to do, but do everything in your power to understand them? As an artist, it's this feeling that keeps me creating time after time. Working from someone's incredible concept helps me understand the character throughout the process.

I felt that tug of inspiration from Ching Yeh's concept, titled "The one," sculpted for James Schauf's Digital Sculpting course. The primary focus was on the high-res sculpt and the final presentation, so this was a great opportunity to play with Keyshot and practice sculpting.

The Gratitude-Bot

Friendship is the gift that keeps on giving!

I modeled this friend based off Matt Dixon's concept, titled "Gratitude," for Hard Surface Modeling 1 with David Mooy. I got the chance to practice sub-division modeling, and texturing using just Keyshot again was a welcome challenge.

The Titanhead

The Titanhead is my current WIP project, but I had the pleasure of modeling and texturing just his head for the Props & Weapons for Games course with Sukru Gilman. I'm hoping to finish the rest of his body in the near future! Original concept by Mathias Osland, titled "titanhead mask."

The Toast-Bot

The top-of-the-line Toast-Bot once inhabited every diner and drive-in along Route 66, happily greeting diners of all walks of life with a platter of warm toast. But fast-forward to a distant, bleak future... The roads long abandoned, the world long destroyed, this lonesome Toast-bot forever awaits its next customer.

Toast-bot was a long term project that began in an Advanced Hard Surface & Organic Modeling course with Rafael Duffie at the Art Institute, back in 2018. Two years later, I textured him for Texturing & Shading II with Anton Napierala & Tran Ma. Two more years finds us here, and I decided to pop him into UE4 for a quick posed render. Revisiting and revising him felt like touching base with an old friend. It makes me all the more excited to improve my art skills and create even more 3D friends for the world! Original concept by Ching Yeh, titled "toast."

The CEO of Cheese

(ahem) ... Have a seat. The CEO of Cheese will see you now.

What a cutie, right!? I had the pleasure of interpreting Sergei Ryzhov's "Office mouse room" for Intro to Maya with Stephen McClure. This was admittedly a haphazard piece of work texture-wise. Only about two or three props were hand-painted, and the rest are an amalgamation of basic VRay shaders. I'm glad that my PBR texturing knowledge has come a long way since then! Regardless, this was a fun piece to start off my Gnomon adventure.
