Digital Double project.

Here is the CG double I made during my third year at ESMA Lyon.

The goal was to recreate myself as faithfully as possible and I hope  that those who know me will recognise me ;)

I learned a lot all the way to the end result , you can find further informations regarding the project down below if you would like to know more about the process.

Breakdowns

This journey started by taking around fifty pictures of my face from all angles. Those pictures were then used to create a scan of my face in 3d thanks to the Agisoft Metashape photogrammetry software. This was the first path/base of 3d model I had to work on.

This base allowed me to wrap a correct topology over it using R3DS Wrap. Of course I had to do a lot of retouch but my digital double was already starting to look promising.

I then used Zbrush and XYZ textures to do the displacement. Xgen Interactive for the grooming part. Then Mari and Photoshop for the textures. All rendered via Pixar Renderman.

It was a pretty big project and very instructive. I discovered the potential of photogrammetry, started to get a taste for Zbrush, and it even reconciled me with Xgen.

I particularly enjoyed studying a lot of references to get as close as possible to realism. It was complicated and  hard at times, but the experience was worth it and very beneficial for the future.

Here are some AOVs.

In order : Direct Diffuse, Direct Specular, Indirect Specular, Subsurface Scattering.
