Nightstalker

My first creature project. At first, the main challenge was to understand animal anatomy and skin/wrinkles behavior, so I started filling a PureRef board with a lot of tiger references. Also, I wanted to create some kind of hybrid between an amphibian and sphynx cat skin.

Sculpted in ZBrush, retopology and UVs in Maya, textured in Substance Painter and rendered in Arnold. Used Photoshop for final image adjustments.

As for the textures, we were allowed to use up to 5 UV tiles. Next you can see Color, Normal, Roughness and Emissive maps for each one. I also applied a Displacement map troughout the model.

Retopology was made using Quad Draw. Model has a polycount of 77K, and the axolotl-like gills of the horns add another 160K tris (they're meant to work like some kind of fur).

The goal of this project was only to create a realistic male human bust, but I wanted to try sculpting someone famous and see how closer I could get to his appearance.

Sculpted in ZBrush, textured in Substance Painter, hair & fuzz in XGen and rendered in Arnold.

This model uses one UV tile for the head, another for the eyes and a third one for the mouth.
