Hello! My name is Aidan Carney and this is my portfolio. I have a passion for all things motion, and have a hunger to make all of the art and stories that are still waiting patiently to be unearthed.

Hello! My name is Aidan, and I'm a graduating senior at SCAD with a degree in Motion Media Design. Here you'll see my personal favorite projects that I've had the opportunity to create during my time at SCAD.

My favorite part of motion design is how the visual style and technical execution of each project can change so drastically from one to the next, based on their different needs. I hope to showcase that here for you guys.

Dead Man's Trail

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep." - Robert Frost

This was my senior capstone project-- the magnum opus of what I've learned and accomplished at SCAD and in life. Naturally, I wanted to make a project representative of all my artistic inclinations and interests(so far). This manifested in an offbeat western fantasy storyline that takes inspiration from the "wandering hero" archetype of the western adventure genre, as well as a healthy dose of old school fantasy art. From there, I sunk my teeth into world building, pacing, tone, and composition.

I wanted the project to feel fantastical and imaginative, which I wanted to evoke through illustration. I brought this illustrative style to life primarily through heavy use of 3D assets and camerawork to make the world feel expansive and real. Aiding me with modelling a couple key 3D assets was Jacob Bailey. Ace sound designer Mark Ninan Otim brought my world to life with a sizzling soundscape that I thought could only have existed in my imagination-- but I guess my rambling descriptions were enough for Mark to work his magic with.

Check out the project and some behind-the-scenes materials below.

"Watchmen" Titles

As a huge fan of the original comic book and the film adaption, I wanted to present this sequence as a loving tribute to the strong iconography that the original graphic novel has. Match that with a macabre ballad only Bob Dylan could pull off and you're good to go.

3D Models

Exploring color, light, and camera techniques.

Logo Resolves

A few logo animations that I have done. Thinking about the identity of each brand while making these, so I feel that each one came out distinct from one another.

"Satisfaction" Explained

I am a big fan of any weird little stories throughout history, so this was a fun one for me. With a clear script and explanation, I could push each shot to be as clear or wonky as I felt.

Spaced Out

An exploration in textures and collage.

The Last Resort

I had a lot of fun making this! I wanted it to feel like it came from pure imagination, like a crayon drawing come to life. The process for making this ended up being equally as fun. Yes, I did the sound effects for the drill bot myself.
