Project: Stylized, The Silk Road, City Block.

This diorama is based on the concept art by Yen Shu Liao: https://www.artstation.com/yensliao.

My goal was to re-create a piece of stylized concept art in 3D. I wanted to focus on something fully stylized and I recorded by process throughout via my blog: https://www.artstation.com/abigail_bevilacqua/blog.

I have enjoyed working on this project and I hope I have done the lovely concept art justice. I have realised how much I like doing stylized work.

A big thank you to Yen Shu Liao for letting me use the concept. As well, to all those who gave feedback, support and encouragement along the way. I appreciate it greatly!

Project: Snowmads | Kombi Life

Update 02/02/2022 - I wanted to improve on my original version of this project and therefore focused on the following aspects:

- Lighting: time of day, use of custom HDR for the sky, sun direction.

- Van textures: removed custom paint job and used one of the official VW kombi van colours. I decided on yellow as it allows the van to stand out and attract the eye, while also complimenting the light blue of the sky.

- Screenshots now in 4K.

This project is definitely a personal one as it more or less represents a fantasy of mine; being in out in nature, middle of nowhere, in a snowy environment with a converted camper van. My goal with this was to create an environment where I would also expand and improve upon my skills as an environment artist. All the assets, materials and particles have been created by me with the exception of the fire FX (UE4 starter content) and the audio in the video (Zapsplat & Freesound) - I have documented my process in my blog along the way so feel free to check that out too

I have learned a lot during this project and it included some firsts for me. I became more familiar with Speedtree, I learned Niagara to re-do my snow particles, it was my first time modelling a vehicle and I learned more about lighting such as using mesh distance fields, plus various other little things along the way.

I have put a lot of work into this project and most importantly for me, it is a project from the heart.

Thank you to those who gave me feedback and helped out with issues I had along the way!

Project: Re-Lit | Aboriginal Watering-hole | CGMA Organic World Building in UE4

! Update June 2021 ! - rework of the lighting - After getting some great feedback during my portfolio review with Dinusty, I decided to rework the lighting in this scene (as well as a few other little adjustments.) I hope the results have improved the scene smiley

To make good use of my time and expand my knowledge during lockdown I decided to do a CGMA course 'Organic World Building in UE4' created by Anthony Vaccaro. This environment was made over a period of 10 weeks in which I learned a lot from the lessons and created my scene along the way, receiving feedback each week.

The environment is inspired by an area in the Australia outback, around the Ormiston gorge. The story behind my environment is that a small Aboriginal tribe (pre-invasion time period) set off to find a place to settle and they came across this waterhole. While scoping out the area they soon found they were not the first ones to have been there.
