I have had this concept for quite some time to create a humble mushroom hero story...a tale where the hero does not have a dark and tragic past, but one where his present reality of overt tranquility is a ruse that leads him to trust his imagination more than what the world presents as real. His inner world becomes more prevalent and reveals itself to those he cares about threatening to destroy everything he loves. So, this is a movie trailer I made to show the story as a proof of concept.
Mushirumo(left), the squat lovable child with an overactive imagination. Shadowthorn (right), our hero's enemy who challenges and frightens Mushirumo in his nightmares and daydreams.
This trailer has gone through a few storyboard changes which hopefully kept it tight and fun. Although the concept has been in my mind for years I have only done what you see here in the last two months. It has been a labor of love for both the animation process and the realization of a humble little hero.
I wanted to make a villain that was obviously evil and twisted, and still had the elements of a mushroom. I came across a mushroom that was dripping with black goo and another that had pointed tentacles. So, this is what came from it
