Mindustry Fanart
Converting buildings from the top down game to 3D concept sketches.
Mindustry Inspired Buildings
First of all, What's "Mindustry"? Its a top down 2D, tower defence / sandbox game, similar to the more popular game "Factorio".
Whats the entry about? Some buildings from the game, that i converted into 3D and made concept art (sketch) about them. The specific buildings are part of an assembly line that, amongst others can produce a ground unit called "Fortress". (It looks like a big robot) What im trying to achieve is to make buildings that look identical, or at least similar to the ones from the game, if vewed from the top, while making them interesting to look at from all directions and at the same time keep the detail density consistent with the graphics style.
Why did i made that? Well, im working on a project of mine. A fanart / concept art and in the context of that, i have to turn buildings from top down, to three dimensional so i can sketch them.
So lets move to the fun stuff!
The first building of the assembly line can produce 3 different ground units. It requires resources and power. The first can be recived with the help of conveyor belts, while the power is recived by the ring in the top. In the game, power is being transmited by buildings such as power nodes / towers, in the form of light beams. The ring is also the device that builds the units in a 3D printing pattern.
This is the second building of the assembly line. What it does is, it takes a level 1 unit and upgrades it to a level 2 unit. It also requires resources and power and works on a 3D printing pattern, so it has the same ring. Its taller, to be able to fit that lvl 2 unit. I also roughly skecthed the hole line in the top right corner to give an idea of how it looks. The buildings are next to each other.
And the level 2 unit ends up here to be upgraded into a level 3 unit! (The "Fortress" is a lvl 3 unit) This is the largest building as it takes an area of 5 * 5 tiles. I had some trouble figuring out the top, because i wanted to give the same level of detail, but the actual structure is larger, so more detail is required. I also broke up the walls with the detail there, so it wont be monotonous.
And that brings us to the end of this entry! Its actually my first one so i have no idea whats gonna happen! If you'd like to check the game and maybe even try to understand how these buildings work, a bit better, you can take a look on the game's page.
