Through my Holocene
This Entry is about my journey into architectural visualization over the past few months. Right now I'm building my own career in Visualization. I hope you can appreciate my own path as much as I have (maybe with less fatigue along the way). You can see my work and get in touch on Instagram @tommasofreguglia.cgi.
WANDERING THROUGH MY HOLOCENE
After working as an architect for few years, I decided to follow my passion for visual arts, photography, and image composition. I tried to combine these passions with the path in the architectural field already developed. In July 2021 I joined the Masterclass #48 at State Of Art Academy, which was really important in further enthralling me into the world of architectural visualization and deciding to make it my job. All the following images and personal projects have been made during the last 8-9 months, after the Masterclass. That was the beginning of my path as an Architectural Illustrator. I hope you can fully appreciate it, just like a development path, from the first images to the last ones produced (so far).
PHASE 1 : FIRST STEPS AND PERSONAL SHOTS
I began to devote myself early on to creating personal projects that could give me the opportunity to experiment. After collecting and studying several references, I developed my first totally personal images. During this first year in which I tried to develop my skills more and more, I always tried to give strong heterogeneity to my personal research works.
After every shot I'll leave a short comment about the idea I was trying to illustrate.
Personal reinterpretation of an image found on the web. It is one of my first images, where I was trying to study light and the effects it could have on wood materials.
The study of interior rooms continues. For some time I have been researching online references, including photographs, film shots and paintings. In this case I was curious about how I could curate materials and appropriate camera framing.

In the above shot I was exclusively inspired by some interior photographs. It was the beginning of my personal research in terms of photographic and visual composition for the development of images with a meaning that went beyond the simple render.
PHASE 2 : EXPLORATION OF WHAT'S BEYOND
After continuous reference research and photographic study, I began to explore my personal scenes with the intention of finding an increasingly personal key within my images.
The images above are part of what was probably a key moment in my personal growth in image development. I modeled a modest environment, a small room in a Scandinavian apartment and began to explore its potential.
Always using photographic references I began the exploration of natural environments and the relationship of architecture with them.
PHASE 3 : NEW CHALLENGES? THAT'S NICE
I have always tried to achieve goals by going beyond old limits, searching for images that could differentiate and express new concepts (especially for me). This opened a phase of extreme exploration, which allowed me to refine my skills and personal horizons. I have always been fond of the nature that surrounds us and I am fascinated by the strong relationship of architecture with it. That's why I have always tried to describe as much as possible this link through my illustrations.
To this day, I think this is one of the images I am most fond of. I call it "En Plein Air." It best expresses the strong connection between an architecture (or maybe just the idea of human intervention) and Nature.
Twist and shout. Personal utopia in the heart of chicago
I am very fond of the theme of the Sublime, typical of the Romantic period, understood as the feeling, mixed with terror and pleasure capable of striking and "raising" the soul of the viewer, especially in front of Nature. I have often wished to bring this aspect back into my images.
PHASE 4 : EVENTUALLY, THE DESERT CALL
During the last few weeks I have been working on the following sketches with a desert setting. I had been fascinated by some of the photos taken in such arid settings, that I wanted to somehow explore them myself.
All images are personal evocations, none of these projects really exists. They are just illustrations of my own ideas.
I would like to thank The Rookies platform for giving so many artists the opportunity to showcase their skills and share beauty in a variety of forms.
