Portfolio Pieces

by malinsandred on 12 Apr 2022 for Rookie Awards 2022

These are the pieces I decided to put in my portfolio that I made at The Game Assembly, in Stockholm.

Round of applause for our sponsors

These pictures are the result of different projects I have made at my time at The Game Assembly, Stockholm. When I started, I had barely ever opened a 3D modeling software, and wasn't even sure whether I wanted to specialize in 3D. I quickly fell in love, however, and now I can't imagine doing anything else!

Scout Trooper

I made this guy over the course of 4 weeks. Modeled and sculpted in Zbrush, UV-unwrapped and retopologized in Maya, textured in Substance Painter and rendered in Unreal Engine 4 after posing him with a quick rig in Maya. The background was made using free assets from Quixel Bridge.

Welcome home, honey!

I wanted to make something organic mixed with hard surface, and came up with the idea of a Terminator and Stepford Housewives inspired character. I modeled and sculpted her in Zbrush, and used Marvelous Designer to get a base for the dress, which I then altered in Zbrush. I used Maya to UV-unwrap and retopologize, Substance Painter to texture, and Unreal Engine 4 to render.

Here she is in all her glory, sans hair.

Karl XII

I love the Carolean uniform, and found some nice reference pictures for Karl XII of Sweden's uniform that I wanted to create. The jacket and cape were made in Marvelous Designer, and the rest I modeled and sculpted in Zbrush. I used Maya to retopologize and UV-unwrap, Substance Painter to texture and Unreal Engine 4 to render.

Witch's Cottage

I wanted to create a diorama or scene that had a "cozy" feel to it. I was greatly inspired by things from my grandparents old house, and knick knacks I found in their basement. I modeled the assets in Maya, and sculpted a few details in Zbrush. I made the floor and wallpaper textures with Substance Designer, but the rest I textured using Substance Painter. The flowers were pictures I took from unsplash.com under their free license. The scene was rendered in Unreal Engine 4.

Arcane Bust

After watching Arcane, I really wanted to try my hand at creating something in the same style. Sculpted in Zbrush, UV-unwrapped and retopologized in Maya, textured using Substance Painter, rendered in Unreal Engine 4.

Radna, King of Demons

This was a final boss in our 6th game project at The Game Assembly in Stockholm. The aim was to create a game in a style similar to Diablo/Heroes of the Storm. I got a base model from a group member, which I sculpted in Zbrush to stylize it to fit the brief. I retopologized it in Maya, and textured it in Substance Painter. The screenshot is from our in house engine! The glamor shots were rendered in Unreal Engine 4.

Armet Helmet

To practice my hard surface skills, I decided to create a helmet. I used Maya to pin down the basic shapes and proportions, then I sculpted in the details using Zbrush. I used Substance Painter to texture it, and Unreal Engine 4 to render.

I would like to thank all my classmates and teachers at both The Game Assembly in Stockholm and Malmö for all the feedback, and inspiration!
