Democloaker

Hi everyone,

This is the final render for my Democloaker. I enjoyed creating the creature despite some strange interruptions in my schedule and not being a big fan of Strangers Things. 

I am happy with the final result although I wish I could tweak it a tiny bit more and do some more renders with more poses. I have literally cut it down to the wire and I don't think I could even squeeze another render in before submissions close.

That being said I thoroughly enjoyed creating the Democloaker and watching it take shape has been fun. I'll probably come back to it at a later stage and polish up the textures and lighting, however, I am happy with it for now.

Hi everyone,

I decided to take part in the contest a few weeks back, however, I didn't enter right away as I was not sure how far I'd get due to time constraints with everyday life. I'm also not the biggest fan of Stranger Things (excluding season one that is) so my general excitement towards the project was not what it usually is.

That being said, I have made decent progress so I decided to post my process so far as per the contest rules as late as it may be.

This post contains some reference images related to Stranger Things as well as a very quick sketch I did to help me visualize my creature, at least its general shape and design...

A note about the creature: It's somewhat based off of the cloaker from DnD, not in magical prowess, but more in looks, stealth and how it approaches engaging its victims.  I like the idea of a creature that scrambles the minds of its victims, making them willingly shuffle and walk into the upside down in a zombie like state... where they undergo a metamorphosis becoming Demogorgons and other beasts (my lore, not the shows) perhaps joining the fight against humans. It grabs its victims, wraps its wings around them and pierces their skulls with a bone like proboscis found in its head. It has a mouth on its underbelly that is used for feeding. It possesses no real way to kill its victims, so unfortunately those that are not deemed worthy in the fight against humanity are slowly and painfully eaten (when hunger sets in that is).
