Update - 31 Dec 2021

Final render complete! I have made use of Photoshop for final touches and colour tweaks as well as adding a touch of noise to break up the "cleanness" of the 3D works - lots of fun and learned lots about projects, especially regarding time constraints!

Really enjoyed seeing what the community has produced for this challenge and look forward to participating in another one :)

Happy New Year everyone, hope you had a good one.

Update - 30 Dec 2021

Today built a basic environment out using the landscape tool in Blender for the ground, then added some displacement maps using voronoi tweaking for small and large pock marks, established some basic trees with the Sapling add on as well as some power line masts to add a bit of scale and depth. Next up more lighting tweaks and extra touches of detail on the ground such as bushes, or patches of grass - and maybe a texture for underneath that all as well.

Cheers,

Alan

Update - 29 Dec 2021

Did some more detailed sculpting work on the monster, now to piece together a simple environment and work with lights, shadows and smoke to create an atmospheric feel, possibly utilising red lighting/cloud/lightning to increase the feeling of danger.

Update - 28 Dec 2021

Further sculpting development - will do another bout of sculpting then start working on a loose environment to place in and begin rendering as soon as so I can get an entry in on time :)

Update - 20 Dec 2021

Initial blockout done with some subdivision surface to clean up - starting to look pretty damn cool!

Update - 16 Dec 2021

After assessing the amount of time left I've decided to start mocking up concepts of the Shadow Monster instead, with a sense of scale and lighting this may deliver the best results I can reach within the last 2 weeks of this challenge. I done a few thumbnail sketches to get myself closer to what perspective and composition is most effective.

Cheers,

Alan

Update - 8 Dec 2021

Long time since an update was searching for some inspiration as to what to make, I feel like the thing that feels most Stranger Things to me is not some props, but one of the little creatures, the Darts or Dart babys. I mocked this little sculpt up in an effort to push myself towards some kind of blockout, a very rough, messy blockout. But a start :)

Update - 7 Nov 2021

To start with I wanted to capture some things that really feel like the Stranger Things vibe, I wanted some of the dramatic shots as well as showing a few household items from the time represented in the story.

From these images I have a few modelling ideas that I like:

1. A more environment focused shot showing off Dustin's radio tower

2. Max's skateboard

3. A radio or receiver device/casio watch (the watch might be too easy to pick up as it was suggested in the brief, but I'll mull it over
