Alexandra Munro
Hello! Here you'll find my portfolio of work as a student motion designer. My name is Ally; I am originally from Michigan and study motion graphics at SCAD in Savannah, Georgia.
Reunion
Marcelo Meneses and I created this story based on the word "reunion," using only shapes and colors to convey feeling. The soundtrack we used is also titled "Reunion," created by the incredible sound designer, Todd Baker.
Collaborators: Marcello Meneses (Motion Designer)
Credits: Todd Baker (sound design from Monument Valley 2)
Tash Sultana
This is a logo design and social spec ad for one of the most inspirational musicians and singers of our time, Tash Sultana.

Vivid Sydney
Maggie Quinn and I created a spec ad for the installation art + music festival, Vivid Sydney. We decided to incorporate processing with 2D animation to bring our ideas to life and to create out-of-the-box graphics for an out-of-the-box festival. We used Holly Herndon's unique song, "Chorus," to drive the story of the title opener.
Collaborators: Maggie Quinn (Motion Designer)
Credits: Holly Herndon (Sound design, "Chorus" from her album Platform); Vivid Sydney (light + music festival)
Airbnb Spec Ad
This is a spec ad I did for the travel & homestay company, Airbnb.
Clutch
CLUTCH is a concept created by Julia Wheatley; it's an interactive motorcycle manual designed to teach basic maintenance and inspire confidence. Using augmented reality you can absorb information in real time, with real experience on a physical bike.
I was the lead motion designer of this piece and visualized her concept of augmented reality. I also helped with video editing, sound editing, and color correction.
Collaborators and Credits: Julia Wheatley (Writer, Producer & Designer); Hyatt Mamoun (Director, Editor); Keon Abbott (Cinematographer); Maria Teresa Ray (Motion Designer); Connor McCoy (Original Score and Sound Editing)
Additional Credits: Ethan Hacker (2nd Camera); Jasper Erickson (Production Assistant); Harry Donovan (Grip)
Annihilation Title Card
The design analysis and treatment of this kinetic typography project was created for the film Annihilation, released in February 2018. The film is a highly rated science fiction psychological horror written and directed by Alex Garland (director of Ex Machina) and based on the novel by Jeff VanderMeer. It is a cinematic, complex piece of art. It is a reflection of the horrors of change, from physical to emotional. I highly recommend this film to anyone who enjoys a story that leaves you thinking.
Each decision throughout this process was in respect to the film itself. The main focus was on the typography; the elements and style of the motion was decided afterwards. I wanted to have the typography of the title be able to sit alone and evoke something within itself, rather than rely on the surrounding graphics as support.
My professor, Kelly Carlton, led this study as a focus on typography and title design, so that is exactly what we focused on. We spent the first half of this process designing the treatment of the type itself, and the second half designing the style frames and motion.
Below, you will see the typographic treatments followed by my variations of style frames that led to a final result.
