A Lizardman of Mongo
A recreation of a Lizardman for the Flash Gordon Modelling Contest High Poly category
Update - 8 Jun 2021
Since finishing the basic block-out I've devoted most of my time to figuring out some possible poses for the final sculpt. I wanted to have a pose that implies some sort of action, however struggled due to the short and thick limbs limiting manoeuvrability. This lead to me landing on poses that are either just before or just after an action, using either the long tongue (based on chameleons which the concept's pretty heavily based on), or an exaggerated trail, to convey the direction of movement.
I'm currently leaning towards the pose on the left but will gather some feedback before making a final decision.
You may also notice that the general proportions are not consistent between the poses as I ended up refining the design with every new pose ( with the right being the oldest and the left the newest), so I may take the time to update the oldest pose with the newer proportions and see if that changes my decision.
I'm looking forward to seeing the final piece come together!

I'm very excited for my first contest here at The Rookies! This character immediately jumped out at me as my favourite, and so I went to work creating a base model to try and nail down the rough proportions and build for this big boy.
The concepts don't show a clear head on view of the face so I struggled a bit deciding on how wide and spread out I wanted the features to be, but am happy with where I landed for now.
My next step is to decide on a nice pose to move him into before I can clean up and refine the design and start adding in the rest of the details.
