Thesis Project "Nice Costumes" Concept By Max Ulichney

This was a project i started late December, before graduating, and finished in february, took me two months to finish, working on and off because of some other things i had to do. The vegetation was made using megascans. My main goal with this project was to produce a full movie frame trying to achieve Disney quality, im sure i didnt reach that goal, but i feel i grew as an artist, specially with lighting. The workflow was pretty straight forward, i sculpted in zbrush, retopo in maya, textures in substance painter (with a bit of designer to create the dinosaur skin) and render in Blender. I choose blender for the render because i find cycles to be so much faster than arnold in my computer, maybe because my cpu isnt so strong. Finally the compositing was made with DaVinci Resolve.

My goal was to maintain the essence of the concept whilist making it look more 3D.

Lighting on this project was a joy to work on. You can also notice how the use of volumes makes the end image look so much meter, it helps separate the background. I feel it was necessary since the color of the cowboy hat is similiar to the leaves of the tree.

I wanted to make sure my main character had proper topolog.

Here is a ClayRender of both characters.

Here is my Second project. I came across this concepft by Etienne Savoie and i couldnt resist translating it intro 3D, pretty much everything was poly modeled in maya, except for some of the rocks and plants whichcame from megascans. It was textured with substance painter.

My Third Proyect is just a small practice i did, i stylized one of my favorite videogame characters of all time and light him as if he was standing in the cold night of Shadow Mosses. Its inspired by a sketch by Max Grecke but not completely.

I kept the 21:9 aspect ratio to make a little more cinematic.

Lastly to Keep the pirate mood, for my fourth project  i sculpted this pirate based on the many designs of Luigi Lucarelli, its got propoer topology and everything.  Made with Maya, Substance and Zbrush
