Hello. My name is Joshua Ruggiero, I'm an aspiring 3D animator who is currently studying the Bachelor of Creative Arts: Visual Effects and Entertainment Design at Flinders University and CDW Studios in South Australia.

This is the latest iteration of my current demo reel. It has gone through many stages since its original upload and I've made an ENORMOUS improvement since its original post date. (August, 2020)

Note: All animations were made within Autodesk Maya and then sent to Adobe After Effects for post and its final render.

COMPARISONS OF "THE DIVINE BEAST" SHORT FEATURING ZELDA

Below are four shots of the very first and last frame within my Divine Beast animation featuring Zelda. Using the slide will showcase the progress I have made to posing, lighting, staging, etc, since its original upload back in August, 2020. As you can tell, a vast amount of effort and time went into bringing this animation to its final stage.

The answer to the question that you may be asking is, yes. I did include the footage above in my demo reel at the time and that is why I believe it is important to use it as a comparison for how far I've come since August, 2020. I've learnt many new techniques and skills since then, that I believe have helped improve my eye for 3D animation.

COMPARISONS OF THE "I AM FIRE, I AM DEATH" SHORT ANIMATION

Below are again four stills that feature my dragon animation that was heavily influenced by the infamous Smaug ending scene from 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug'.

Within the images feature the before and afters of the scene and below that showcases the first rendered video of the animation for comparison. Note that the first render of the short was made back in February, 2020.

As you may be able to tell, the video above is an early stage of the animation. After a closer look, it is evident that the animation lacks in movement and can feel extremely stiff at times. This short went through an enormous amount of revisions and through feedback sessions with peers and a vast amount of effort, I was able to bring it to a stage that I'm much more happier with.

IN CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the above media demonstrates a few examples of the work I have done within the year and that is attached to my current demo reel. With feedback from my peers and teachers, I wish to improve upon it. With learning new techniques and training my eye, I desire to excel and land an opportunity working within the 3D animation industry.
