Formula 1: Model to Survive

After working for months on all the compositing aspects of a short film we made with my classmates, I felt the need to go back to some good old 3D modelling.

Here's then a personal project inspired by the Netflix documentary series Formula 1: Drive to Survive.

While watching it, I thought it would be challenging for me to model one of these racing machines and interesting to create visual content that looked as real as possible.

I am pretty happy with the modelling which wasn't easy since it is not my specialty. Surprisingly enough though, it hasn't been the most complicated part: finding good reference images took me more time. To have a precise insight at what each piece looks like, under every angles to understand precisely how the car is built required some deep research.

Even if one can still tell it is CG, the compositing really helped produce that speed feeling I was aiming for.

I also had a lot of fun texturing it with some unlikely, typically swiss brand logos!
