The Reapers Challenge is a Real-time, Multiplayer, Dungeon Crawler that takes inspiration from games like The Binding of Isaac and The Legend of Zelda. Players will either play as a Paranormal Detective or the Grim Reaper who controls a Haunted Mansion.

The Reapers Challenge is a Real-time, Multiplayer, Dungeon Crawler that takes inspiration from games like The Binding of Isaac and The Legend of Zelda.
Players will either play as a Paranormal detective or the Grim Reaper who controls a Haunted Mansion.
The game is still early on in its development, being made individually. However, a large portion of the games Artwork and Animations have been completed.
In each playthrough, combat will take place in a variety of levels. Each one is unique in its layout and provides a customized setting for combat encounters. Levels are selected at random, requiring both players to adapt and choose the tools that they bring into each level. Below are a few examples of the games many levels.
At the beginning of each playthrough, the detective will start out with a walking stick, a throwing knife and salt. These act as the player's default melee weapon, ranged weapon, and tactical item. As they progress through a playthrough they will come across a friendly merchant who will sell the Detective new items in exchange for treasure.
Before the Detective enters a new level, the Reaper will select which enemies and stage hazard they want to use in that level. They will then place each hazard onto the level where they think they would be most effective. When the combat encounter begins, the Reaper will begin spawning enemies near the Detective and they will act autonomously. The Reaper will need to consider which enemies and hazards will be most effective, based on the Detective’s items and other circumstances.
During a playthrough the Detective will eventually enter a boss room. Here both players will fight each other directly in PvP combat. As the Reaper controls a boss, they will have access to a variety of attacks that are powerful but require the player to wait through a cooldown period before they can be used again. If the Detective manages to fight their way to the Mansions final room, they will engage the Reaper in a final boss battle.
Below is a video of all the character animations that have been made for this project thus far. They are mainly comprised of walk cycles, attacks, and damage reactions. This video should help to display how each character differs mechanically.
Below is a video that demonstrated how far along the game is into development. Without a legitimate programmer, the game still has a long way to go before it reaches Alpha stage. However this video acts as a good vertical slice of what it is like when playing as the detective.
Finally, while no progress has been made on the Reaper game mode. The video below should provide a good simulation of what players will be doing when playing as the Reaper.
