A 3D generalist exploration

Julien Lommaert
by cvcf006 on 31 May 2021 for Rookie Awards 2021

In this entry, I explore different forms of 3D art. I did this to practice and to discover what kind of artist I want to be. I like to focus and practice more on stylized art and hope to make more epic artwork and environments in the future! Enjoy my works!

Hard surface practice

I try to practice some hard surfaces to get better at texturing PBR materials. I started with a small item to gain confidence to go to a more complex tool. Modeled in 3DS Max and textured in Substance.

I worked with references of course. The gun is a concept from: https://www.flickr.com/photos/lego_robots_7/

Little dragon

A little dragon I created to practice sculpting inside Zbrush. I tried to create a pearl like feel with this one

Grand Space Opera: Light Age

This is my entry from the artstation challenge Grand Space Opera: Light Age. I was able to finish it but need to practice my lighting more.

I used Houdini to make the organic rocks and an automated tool for 3DSmax to make the vines. For the material, I went with a pearly glass. I am happy with how it turned out.

I used concept art from: https://www.artstation.com/contests/grand-space-opera-light-age/challenges/93/submissions/59705?sorting=survivors

Stylized materials practice

I deep-dived into stylized material. How to create them using substance designer or combination with Zbrush
