The beginning of my journey.
I share with you here my projects in visual effect. The result of my learning so far and my passion.
Hi everyone! My name is Darcy and I am submitting my entry for the rookies 2021 with two projects.
To start, here is my first big 3D project. I made it for the school setting. I was inspired by an illustration by Dawid Planeta from an image series called Depression. Even before starting the project, I had some fears about my abilities, but during the realization of the project, I learned a lot, from myself but also from the environment and the benevolent advice of my mentors at the Artline Institute.
For the realization of this project, I used the following softwares and techniques: Maya, Zbrush, 3Dcoat, SpeedTree, Arnold, Nuke, Premier pro and Metashape for the photogrammetry.
The objective of the project was to start from a 2D illustration to transform it into 3D, with the constraint of creating a movement in the image and with the camera.

My very first step during a project is to find and gather references for the needs of the project,
After getting my references, I start my project and finish it with the following workflow: blocking, layout, modeling/sculpting photogrammetry, setdressing, shading, lighting, rendering and eventually compositing.
For this second project, I challenged myself to make a hyperrealistic character, with anatomy, texture or grooming, to try to go into new perspectives in the field of 3D and learn more. And yes, I learned a lot during this project.
I was inspired by my own history and my own culture, that of the Malagasy. So I decided to make a character of Malagasy culture, more precisely a Sakalava warrior (one of the several ethnic groups of Madagascar).
For this one, I used : Maya, Zbrush, Mari, Photoshop, Yeti and Arnold.
As for every project, my very first step is to find and gather references for the needs of the project
when I have everything I need as a reference, I start my modeling, sculpting and after, add some displacement for the pore detail.
For shading, I used the main maps like displacement, spec, coat and some more that I exported from zbrush like curvature or normal. I put my lights , shaded my character and started a first pass of grooming.
And finally a little color grade and compositing.
These were my projects for my submission of the rookies 2021, the work is not perfect, but what is sure is that I learned a lot during these projects and I had fun.
