Character and Prop Art Portfolio
Hello! I'm Mary Kane and I'm a character artist. I just graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design and am so excited to enter the world of professional character art. Here is some of my most recent work.
Nidhogg
For this project, I wanted to create a dragon that could fit in the universe of God of War. After doing some research into Norse mythology, I chose Nidhogg, who lives in Helheim and gnaws on the roots of Yggdrasil. I had so much fun designing and sculpting him and I learned a lot from the process. Looking at the awesome creatures and characters from God of War helped to keep me motivated and inspired. I really missed sculpting creatures so he was super refreshing to work on!
Temple Guardian
This is my first time doing any kind of mech character and I've had so much fun working on him! He's based on a story I was working on a while back and is fueled by a combination of ancient technology and magic. Getting him production-ready was a challenge, but I learned so much from the process. He ended up slightly more futuristic-looking than I had originally planned, but I'm happy with how he came out and really want to make more mech or hard surface characters in the future!
Antique Dragon Gun
This is an antique, slightly fantastical, and historically inspired dragon gun with an ax blade attachment. I imagine it would be more of a presentation weapon than a practical tool. It was super fun to sculpt and I really enjoyed researching the engineering and mechanical aspects of firearms in order to make this a believably functional weapon.
Meiji Period Dragon Chair
This project is based on chairs from the Japanese Meiji Period. I took some creative liberties with the poses of the dragons and some of the smaller decorative details, but I'm really happy with how it came out. Sculpting the dragons and Oni heads was a ton of fun!
