1. Hunted

The assignment was to tell a story through black and white values. I wanted to explore the theme of 'hunting', something with the predator/prey dynamic. I came up with the idea of a mountain lion stalking a mouse.

Thumbnail Exploration

I wanted a composition that was dynamic and told the story clearly. I felt that number 7 had the most potential - I liked the 'stalking' pose of the cat, and how the mouse was closer to the camera. So, this is the thumbnail I took further.

Process -

It was important to use lighting to push the drama of the scene. I went for a backlit approach - this created a nice rim light around the characters. It also made the scene more foreboding by pushing the characters mostly into shadow.

2. Dragon World

For this project, the goal was to create a series of three paintings within one world - I chose to create a land of dragons. I wanted to play with atmosphere and giant rock structures to emphasise the grandeur of this world. 

3. Fantasy fox creature

A personal project of mine - I love fennec foxes and I thought they'd be extra endearing with wings! I wanted to make the character semi-stylised but also painterly. 

4 - Guardians of the Forest

Another personal piece I did a few years ago - I wanted to create a whimsical little scene of this unlikely duo travelling through the forest together.
