Bugsmith
A stylized room environment of a insect inspired blacksmith workshop/weapon shop done in Unreal Engine 4.
This is Bugsmith, my imagination of a Blacksmith in an insect inspired world. As an avid bug lover, I love designing things based of these little critters. In monster hunter, I am an insect glaive man, so I thought how cool would it be to create a whole weapon room based off insects? Thus, I aimed to turn this idea into reality. The scene is done in Unreal Engine 4.
I aimed to go for a more stylized cutesy look for this project, as I always had a fascination with stylized 3D art. I wanted to get across the feelings of how bugs can be adorable creatures too as opposed to what most people might feel about them.
My 3D models were done in 3dsMax, then I did the high poly in Z-brush and textured them in substance painter before importing them into Unreal Engine. Over here you can see the low-poly topology of the various props I created for my scene.
During my concept and brain storming phase, I knew I wanted to incorporate the shape and elements of bugs/insects into the environment in a creative way. Thus I experimented with the idea of a dome/pill shaped layout, and a furnace that looks like a beetle as the center piece of attraction.
It was my first time doing something like this in a game engine, and it was a fun and unique learning experience for me! I hope you guys enjoy what I created too. :)
